CONFERENCE Series
While certified special education teachers are tasked with training and supervising paraprofessionals, they often report feeling unprepared to provide effective supervision and training. This Technical Description outlines a virtual, asynchronous paraprofessional training course that aligns with the BACB’s Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) competencies. Opportunities to leverage paraprofessional expertise following the training to expand the expertise and effectiveness of school staff and improve student outcomes will be discussed.

Who am I learning from?

Heather Volchko, BCBA

Heather Volchko is a school-based consultant and program evaluator specializing in emotional and behavioral disorders, contextual behavior analysis, organizational behavior management, and leadership psychology. She has been a coordinator, teacher, and paraprofessional in therapeutic, alternative, self-contained, resource, and correctional settings. Outside of her professional work, she has worked abroad with various international education organizations as well as stateside with organizations facilitating upward mobility. Heather is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst with her Bachelors in Special Education, Masters in Educational Psychology, and is currently pursuing her doctorate.

Manny Huecias, RBT

Manny Huecias is a school-based behavior technician specializing in social, emotional, and behavioral challenges experienced by elementary-aged student populations as well as augmented instructional design. He has been a pop-up virtual learning facilitator and avid volunteer in his local network who brings a practical, systems-aware perspective to supporting complex students and the adults doing their best to help them. Outside of his professional work, he has been a special needs intervention summer camp counselor and an active youth leader in his church. Manny is a Registered Behavior Technician with college coursework in education and psychology.

Candace McCoy, RBT

Candace McCoy is a school-based behavior technician and assistant organizational development specialist specializing in social, emotional, and behavioral challenges experienced by preteen and adolescent student populations as well as organizational behavior management. She has been a restaurant manager, travel agent, bartender, and paraprofessional in the private and public sectors. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband and sons. Candace is a Registered Behavior Technician with college coursework in education and interpretation.
