Culture Series
Marla Watts and Manny Huecias, both board-certified professionals in behavior analysis, discuss mental health in the Hispanic community, drawing from their own experiences growing up in Hispanic households. They explore how cultural factors like machismo and traditional gender roles affect men’s willingness to seek mental health support, alongside the impact of religious beliefs and socioeconomic factors on mental health accessibility. Emphasizing the need for open and gentle conversations within families, they highlight how these dialogues can help destigmatize mental health, fostering understanding and support within the community.
